Drains must free of debris and backed up with auxiliary drains and through-wall scuppers which may provide the only drainage if the primary drains become blocked. Ponded water, which can overload a roof, must be avoided if possible. When water "ponds" on a roof, it will find its way into the smallest openings and can lead to water creeping into various areas of a building. You may not be aware of a problem until your ceiling or walls become stained.
